The case came to light after DSK Legal Mumbai, the law firm that is representing the actor in the 2002 hit-and-run case, came across the Facebook page on September 21. They then immediately approached the cyber cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch and lodged a complaint on Saturday.
The profile, which also had the picture of Salman’s “passport”, invited people to join a new firm floated by the actor in partnership with his manager Reshma Shetty. “The page made an offer to those who were interested to join the firm called Matrix India Entertainment Consultant Ltd,” an official said. He added, “We are verifying if the passport grab used by the accused on the page was indeed that of the actor.”
The police probe now concentrates on locating the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the page on which the profile was created.
When contacted, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) K MM Prasanna told The Indian Express that a complaint had been registered under provisions of the IT Act and IPC. “We registered a case under sections 66( c) and 66 (d) of the IT Act and sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code and a probe is underway,” Prasanna said.
