Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana box office prediction: Will Thor Ragnarok and Ittefaq affect the collection of Rajkummar Rao’s film?

Rajkummar Rao’s film is likely to face lot of competition this week.

Early 2017, Rajkummar Rao starred in Behen Hogi Teri and he’s wrapping up the year with Shaadi Main Zaroor Aana. At a time when his contemporaries are busy chasing stardom, the Newton actor has managed to escape from getting ‘Trapped’ in the rat’s race.

As popular as Rajkummar Rao maybe, he has chosen to release his film when the theaters are occupied with popular superhero film Thor: Ragnarok and Hindi thriller Ittefaq. That’s why trade analyst Girish Johar expects Shaadi Main Zaroor Aana to open to Rs 1-1.5 crore.

During an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, we asked Girish about Shaadi Main Zaroor Aana’s competition. “Ittefaq I doubt since it’s going to be their second weekend at the box office. But Thor: Ragnarok has definitely generated a lot of buzz. It’s occupying a large number of screens till now at the theaters. That’s why I expect the film to make Rs 1-1.5 crore on the first day. By the time the weekend arrives it may earn Rs 6 crores if the reviews and word-of-mouth are strong,” he said.

We also asked him if Irrfan’s Qarib Qarib Singlle might stand as a competition to Rajkummar Rao’s film. He said,” Rajkummar Rao is returning after the success of Newton and Irrfan after the success of Hindi Medium. A little rub off is expected between these two films. But since these two films cater to a similar kind of audience, they end up sharing a similar kind of fate. If both the films manage to get a good word-of-mouth, they needn’t have to worry about defeating one another to survive at the box office.”
