Irrfan Khan’s Qarib Qarib Singlle has been getting rave reviews from every corner but we are yet to see the same magic translating into great box office numbers. In three days of its release, the film has made a total of Rs 8.30 crore, with a collection of Rs 3.50 crore on Sunday. But considering the fact that this Tanuja Chandra film is a small-budget project, and is getting a good word-of-mouth, the figures are expected to grow in the coming days.
With its first weekend coming to an end, keeping a hold at the theaters and minting money is going to be a challenge for this Irrfan and Parvathy starrer. The film opened to Rs 1.75 crore but quickly gained pace with Rs 4.80 crore on Saturday. And with the slight dip in Sunday figures, it is difficult to predict Qarib Qarib Singlle’s future. With films like The Lunch Box, Hindi Medium and others, Irrfan has made a fan base of his own in the country. And considering the fact that content-driven cinema is the new age formula film, Qarib Qarib Singlle should do better over the week.
Qarib Qarib Singlle released alongside Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda’s Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, which is also having a mediocre run at the box office. Next week, the film is to face competition from Vidya Balan’s Tumhari Sulu and Hollywood’s big ticket Justice League. Will there still be takers for this feel good rom-com cum road trip film? We will have to wait and watch for that.
