21 year-old Bobbi Kristina, the daughter of late singer Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, is battling for her life after she was found unresponsive in the bathtub of her Roswell, Georgia home. The Roswell Police Department is said to have discovered the narcotics shortly after the 21-year-old actress was discovered unresponsive on January 31.

It was barely three years ago that her mother, Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub in L.A. The 48-year-old Houston had struggled for years with cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her behavior had become erratic. Authorities examining Whitney Houston’s death found a dozen prescription drug bottles in the hotel suite. They concluded that Houston accidentally drowned. Heart disease and cocaine use were listed as contributing factors in Houston’s death.

It’s no secret that growing up, Bobbi did not exactly have a normal upbringing, while her parents publicly struggled with addiction during their 14-year relationship. But the Houston family is not the one to be hit by tragedy. There is an undeniable link between fame and substance abuse.

Recently, Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee Chan was sentenced to six months in jail in China for drug offenses. Jaycee, who like his father has worked as an actor and singer, had confessed to the court allowing others to take drugs four times in his home between 2012 and 2014.

Actor and filmmaker Philip Seymour Hoffman died of alleged heroin overdose in early 2014. The previous year, ‘Glee’ actor, Cory Monteith was found dead in a hotel room due to heroin and alcohol overdose.

British singer Amy Winehouse joined the 27 Club, when she passed away in 2011 due to alcohol addiction.

Guitarist Jimi Hendrix died of a drug overdose in 1970, while ‘Nirvana’ frontman, Kurt Cobain’s death was allegedly due to a high concentration of heroin and traces of diazepam (Valium) in his body.

King of Rock and roll, Elvis Presley was found dead on the floor of his bathroom at the age of 42. It was said that he died of cardiac arrhythmia. However, it is suspected that Presley had taken a cocktail of prescription drugs including Morphine, Demerol, Valium, Codeine among others.

Heath Ledger, forever remembered as ‘The Joker’ (The Dark Knight) died of acute intoxication caused due to the effect of six different prescription drugs. It’s said that the preparation for his character might have drove him off the edge.

Few are aware of certain names that have battled these evils and emerged victorious.

Drew Barrymore struggled with drug addiction in her teenage years. But, two trips to rehab helped her get her life back on track. Meanwhile, ‘Mean Girls’ actress Lindsay Lohan has become Hollywood’s controversial wild child with multiple incidents of cocaine and alcohol abuse, arrests, jail and rehab visits. But, the actress seems to have cleaned up her act.

Bollywood has its own share of stories: Sanjay Dutt came out about his addiction to drugs for nine years. He was later sent to a rehabilitation centre in Amercia.

There are also reports that famous rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh is also recovering in the rehab following his stint with drugs though nothing has come out of it.

In 2001, actor Fardeen Khan was arrested for alleged possession of cocaine. He underwent a detoxification course at the state-run hospital and filed an application seeking immunity in the case, which was granted in March, 2012.

After his father BJP leader, Pramod Mahajan’s death, Rahul Mahajan was hospitalised after an alleged cocaine overdose in 2006. He is said to have imbibed a cocktail of drugs along with champagne.
