Salman Khan continues with his trend of treating fans to his film on Eid this year as well with ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ this time. The film is already predicted to create box office history owing to of course Salman Khan himself, his romantic equation with his ‘Bodyguard’ actress Kareena Kapoor, his reunion with ‘Kick’ actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and of course working with director Kabir Khan again post ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.
However, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ definitely appears to be somewhat different from Salman Khan’s past films especially since the story revolves around a little mute Pakistani girl, played by Harshali Mahotra, who wanders into India by mistake.
It is then the brave and self-sacrificing ‘Bhaijaan’ who takes upon himself the task of delivering her safely home, irrespective of the dangers along the way.
Known for making films that deliver a social message subtly wrapped by heaps of entertainment, Kabir Khan once again touches upon Indo-Pak relations with ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. “Its all about love thy neighbour. There is no reason for this kind of hatred in our country or in our neighbouring countries. I think it’s a total waste and we have all been misled. In the film industry we don’t follow all these things. We think of everybody as one, as human beings,” Salman had said in an interview to Indian Express.
Kareena Kapoor, who plays a school teacher in the film, said, “I play a school teacher from ‘Chandni Chowk’ in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. My character helps Salman through his journey as he reaches out to this child who comes to India from Pakistan. It’s a very different kind of film because usually people are used to seeing Salman in comedies like ‘Kick’. However, I think this is a story with way more depth. People love seeing Salman and me together, so its is definitely for the masses.”
Major portions of the film have been shot in stunning never-touched-before areas of Kashmir, which is sure to be a visual delight.
“Expectations from ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ are really huge. We are hoping that it may cross Rs.300 crore. Pre-booking of the film has been fantastic,” Delhi-based film distributor Joginder Mahajan told IANS.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is releasing in more than 5,000 screens across 50 countries, including the US, Britain, Pakistan and Australia.
According to Devang Sampat, business head – Strategy, Cinepolis, the anticipation from ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ is ‘humongous and the opening will be as grand as it could get.’
“Right from the time when the teaser was released till the cusp of release date, the buzz has been getting stronger and stronger. The film is expected to outperform Salman’s previous releases and may make a box office record of Rs.300 crore plus numbers,” Sampat told IANS.
He added that more than 70 per cent seats are booked and he is confident the opening weekend will go houseful for the movie.
