Babil Khan says parents Irrfan Khan-Sutapa Sikdar never got him a Playstation, got him his first smartphone in college
Babil Khan tells how he had no access to smartphones or PlayStations during his childhood as parents Irrfan Khan-Sutapa Sikdar didn't give him access to electronic devices, focusing instead on activities such as gardening and painting.

Babil Khan, whose recent film Logout was released on Zee5 today, discussed his upbringing and the impact of digital devices while promoting the film. Logout is a screen-life thriller that serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of social media. During the promotion, Babil was asked about his growing-up years, especially his access to digital technology.
He shared, “Mere ghar par mujhe sab kuch milta in terms of freedom, par kuch nahi milta tha, in terms of materialism. Mujhe kabhi bhi smartphone nahi diya gaya…” (In my house, I had freedom in many ways, but not materialistic things. I was never given a smartphone…) Babil revealed that he received a basic phone when he was 15, just to stay in touch with his parents. It wasn’t until he went to university that he got his first smartphone.
The actor also spoke about his distance from luxury gaming consoles: “Mujhe kabhi bhi PlayStation nahi diya gaya.” (I was never given a PlayStation.) Babil elaborated on how his parents, influenced by the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, kept him away from anything that might hinder his natural growth and development. His daily routine, he shared, was far from typical — starting with skipping, gardening, and painting classes, ensuring he had a childhood free from distractions.
Babil went on to discuss how his parents’ unconventional approach helped shape his perspective on life, making him more attuned to the world around him rather than being consumed by technology. It’s this grounding that he credits for his focus and disciplined approach toward his acting career. And it’s this real, no-frills upbringing that makes him more relatable to audiences across the board.
Logout, is a story about Pratyush, a digital influencer, played by Babil nearing 10 million followers, gears up for a career milestone. His dreams shatter when his phone vanishes, leading him to lose control of his life to a stranger. Babil will next be seen in the Indian-American film Yakshi, where he stars alongside acclaimed Malayali actress Anna Ben. The short film promises to be an exciting project for the young actor, showcasing his versatility in yet another challenging role.
