Tahira Kashyap confirms battling breast cancer for the second time, calls husband Ayushmann Khurrana her rock: ‘Round 2 for me… I still got this’

Writer-director Tahira Kashyap, popularly known for her film Sharmajee Ki Beti, took to Instagram a few minutes back, announcing her cancer diagnosis for the second time. Tahira, who is actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife, was earlier diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. Taking her round two with a positive spirit, Tahira penned a note on social media declaring that she has ‘still got this’.

Sharing the news, Tahira wrote, “Seven-year itch or the power of regular screening- it’s a perspective, I had like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me…I still got this.” She also wrote in the caption, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because, for one, it’s a better drink, and two, you know you will give it your best once again. Ironically or not, today is World Health Day. Let’s do whatever we can in our capacity to take care of ourselves, gratitude through and through.”

Her brother-in-law, actor Aparshakti Khurana wrote, “Big tight hug bhabhi! We know Tussi ainu viii lamaaa paa laaonge (We know you will defeat this also).” Fellow cancer survivor Sonali Bedre commented, “No words baby! Just sending love strength and prayers.” Author Twinkle Khanna wrote, “With you all the way my friend. You beat all of us at bowling and you will beat this too. Love you loads.”

Tahira has been a strong advocate of early detection and treatment for breast cancer, after she battled it the first time seven years ago. She was even lauded for sharing her journey with the big C by embracing her bald look and surgery scars. The filmmaker had also spoken about her decision to speak openly about her diagnosis and how her family reacted to it on various occasions. Reacting to this announcement, many have been sending good wishes to Tahira.

On the work front, Tahira made her directorial debut in 2024 with the film Sharmajee Ki Beti. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video.
