Aruna Irani reveals why she kept her marriage to Kuku Kohli a secret: ‘He was a married man’

During the conversation, Aruna Irani shared how she and Kuku Kohli initially hated each other. Narrating the story she said, “I met Kukuji during Kohram. I was doing a lot of films then to run my house but they were not very great roles. I was very busy with my films in Madras. That time Kukuji asked me for my dates for one month, I tried for a few days and told them I couldn’t do the film. Kukuji got angry, he didn’t like the idea. But we kept working. So even when I had no work but dates were given, he would call me, and I would get very angry.”

She further added, “Sometimes he would make me sit for the whole day and then take one shot, so we were at loggerheads. I used to hate Kukuji, and he too had issues with me. Then I don’t know what happened, he started to soften and we became friends. Then he started adjusting my dates. And eventually, love happened.”

Sharing why she chose to keep the marriage a secret and also why they decided not to have kids, Aruna Irani shared, “I didn’t tell anyone about our marriage because he was a married man. I don’t know where this stupid news came from that I was not aware of his first marriage. His wife would come on the sets along with the kids. I knew about it. It was a tough decision to make. Somehow we got married. It was not a right decision for us to not have kids. But he fought the world to marry me.”

Aruna also shared how she was not okay playing Sanjay Dutt’s mother in Rocky. Talking about the same, she shared in the interview, “I didn’t want to play a mother on screen so soon. I was hardly in my 30s, but Dutt saab was very adamant I don’t know why.”

On the work front, Aruna Irani will be once again working with Sanjay Dutt in the film Ghudchadi. The film also stars Raveena Tandon, Parth Samthaan and Khushali Kumar in pivotal roles.
