For over a year now, there has been intense speculation about celebrity couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli seemingly having moved base to London. They’ve been spotted out and about in London on numerous occasions, even as acquaintances confirmed their decision to move. Among the people who’ve commented on Anushka and Virat’s growing (physical) distance from India is Madhuri Dixit’s husband, Dr Sriram Nene. Dr Nene, who runs a health and wellness YouTube channel, hosted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for a conversation a few months ago. During the chat, they spoke about their mutual admiration for Virat, which is when Dr Nene recalled a conversation he had with the cricketer’s wife, actor Anushka Sharma.

He said, “I have a lot of respect (for him). We’ve met him multiple times; he’s just a decent human being.” Dr Nene continued, “I’ll tell you something, and this is what you learn, they all put their pants on one leg at a time. We had a conversation with Anushka one day, and it was very interesting. They were thinking about moving to London because they can’t enjoy their success (here). And we appreciate what they go through, because anything they do attracts attention. We almost become isolated.”

Commenting on his complicated relationship with fame, Dr Nene said, “I get along with everyone; I’m bindaas. But even there, it becomes challenging. There’s always a selfie moment. Not in a bad way, but there comes a time when it becomes intrusive, when you’re at dinner or lunch, and you have to be polite about it. For my wife, it becomes an issue. But (Anushka and Virat) are lovely people, and they just want to raise their kids normally.”

In another video posted on his YouTube channel, Dr Nene admitted that Madhuri is the actual celebrity of the two, and that he’s sometimes bothered about not being seen as a person in his own right.  “I’m the accidental yankee in King Arthur’s court, and the incidental tourist, if you will. My wife’s the famous one, I’m just here for the ride. But, other than the imposter syndrome that all of us face on the spectrum, it’s the power of one to make a difference in the lives of many. Don’t ever underestimate how powerful each of you is,” he said.

In an earlier conversation with Dainik Jagran, Virat’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, also appeared to confirm the cricketer’s decision to move away from India. He said, “Yes, Virat plans to move to London with his children and wife, Anushka Sharma. He is going to be leaving India and shifting very soon. However, right now, Kohli is spending most of his time with his family apart from cricket.”

Virat and Anushka tied the knot in 2017 in Italy. They welcomed their first child, daughter Vamika, in 2021. Their second child, son Akaay, was born in 2024. Anushka’s last full-fledged role in a film came in Zero, which was released seven years ago.
