Actor Anupam Kher has never shied away from speaking his mind. And recently, during an interview, Anupam shared his honest view on ’roundtable interviews’ that are often held at the end of every year. He said that despite being in the industry for over 41 years, he is never called to such interviews.
While appearing on Unfiltered with Samdish, Kher talked about his career. Kher was asked whether he felt underappreciated in the industry and he answered the question by saying that these feelings depend on whose validation one is seeking. He said, “It depends on the kind of people who decide if I am good enough. There is a section of people who try to decide who they want to make into a big name and who they don’t. That always happens, and it is because of the mediocrity of people.”
The actor added that there is a certain group of people who try to control what happens in the movie industry, people who try to decide an actor’s career graph for them. He said, “There is a section of people in the media who decide things like, ‘We don’t want to invite Anupam Kher to an actor’s roundtable’. They have never called me, and acting-wise, main inn sabka baap hoon (I am a much better actor than these people). I run an actual acting school. Recently, I even called up a senior editor and told her, ‘Why do you get so happy talking to mediocre actors?'”
He continued and said that he doesn’t like the fact that there are people out there who don’t wish to see him succeed. However, the actor said that he has learnt to live with it now and that all one needs to do for confidence is to stop caring about other people’s opinions. “Everyone wants to be liked, and I still feel that way. But the day you understand that you don’t need to be liked by everyone is the day you become the king. I even wrote a play about all my failures and showed it to the world. At that point, you stop caring about what people think,” said Kher.
