On Thursday afternoon, PTI reported about Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s miraculous escape from a car accident last week in Kolkata when one of the rear wheels of his Mercedes got detached. The actor had visited the city for the inaugural programme of the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival. A senior official at the Secretariat confirmed the incident to PTI and said, “The wheel on the left rear-end of the Mercedes carrying Bachchan got detached from the vehicle on Dufferin Road when he was going to the airport to catch a flight for Mumbai on Saturday morning.” But after reading Senior Bachchan’s latest tweet, it seems like nothing of the sort happened.
Late on Thursday night, an active social media user Amitabh took to his official Twitter handle to clarify that he didn’t meet with any accident and is very much fine. “I am informed by concerned well wishers and media, that I had a close escape from a car accident in Kolkata .. that is incorrect .. there has been no accident .. I am well ..,” tweeted the Pink actor.

The report which did rounds on Friday also claimed that the state government will look into the matter and take action against the travel agency which was paid a high amount for transportation of the superstar. The official also said the initial probe revealed that the vehicle’s “certificate of fitness” had expired long back but it was still in use.
According to PTI, a senior official of the Kolkata Traffic Police said that after the accident, Amitabh was taken to the airport in senior state minister’s vehicle.
