Amitabh Bachchan makes it a point to greet his fans every Sunday outside his Mumbai residence, and in a recent blog post, Bachchan shared several photos of one such meet-and-greet. The actor shared photos children, and wrote that they shouldn’t be “subjected to this torture” in the sweltering heat.
Bachchan shared that he has installed four containers of drinking water for those who wait outside in the heat. “I felt they wait for hours in this sweltering heat, so to provide them drinking water with lime to quench their thirst .. 4 containers, 2 on either side of the gate .. over and above the ‘matka’ that is permanently there during the day and night,” he wrote.
The actor said that he greets his fans barefoot, and when people “sarcastically” comment, “who goes out wearing socks and bare feet,” he explained his reason for doing so. “You go to the temple bare feet… my well wishers are my temple,” he wrote.
Amitabh recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with actor-wife Jaya Bachchan. “June 3 dawns in a few .. and the years be counted as 50 .. love respect and gratitude for the wishes , that have come and perhaps shall come ..” he wrote on his blog to mark the occasion.
In a previous podcast with granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda, Jaya had spoken about the events leading up to their wedding and said, “We had to go on a trip after the success of the film we did together (Zanjeer). But one day, he called me and said, ‘There’s a problem. My parents won’t allow us to go on a holiday and if we want to go, we must get married.’ So I said we were already planning to get married in October, let’s get it done in June. But you will have to speak to my parents. He called my father, who was not very happy, since he never wanted me to get married.”
Amitabh and Jaya tied the knot in a simple ceremony in Mumbai in 1973. They welcomed daughter Shweta in 1974 and son Abhishek in 1976.
