We were still not over the hangover of the grand event of 2.0 but soon Akshay Kumar gave us yet another reason to celebrate. Akshay Kumar starrer, and Twinkle Khanna’s production Padman, which was set to release on April 13, 2018 now has a new date. It seems the makers now plans to offer the film to its audience a little early. Hence, the Republic Day weekend is now set to welcome this Akshay’s film on screen. The actor announced the new release date of Padman, which is January 26, 2018, with a poster of the film.
Akshay tweeted, “Not all superheroes come with capes! Bringing you the true story of a real superhero, #Padman this Republic Day – 26th January, 2018!”
Padman is based on the real life story of Arunachalam Muruganatham. Padman traces the struggle of a man who makes his mission to find affordable and hygienic alternatives for sanitary pads for women in his village thereby helping the improvement of sanitation facilities especially for women during menstruation.

Now, point to note is, Akshay’s other film, the much awaited sci-fi Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 is also set to release on January 25 2018. While many began thinking whether the clash of both Akshay’s films will affect business, indianexpress.com got in touch with trade guru Ramesh Bala who shared that the film might get postponed to avert a clash with Padman.
“Looks like a delay with the VFX. The shooting has been done though with Amy Jackson recently wrapping up a song. Now that the Audio launch was successful, the news will not seem very negative. And also they’ll get more time to space out the teaser and trailer launch,” said Ramesh.
He further added, “The ideal release period looks like the summer vacation of 2018, which worked really well for Baahubali 2. They might look at using the vacation the most.”
S. Shankar directed film features Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.
As we know that both 2.0 and Padman have very different stories to tell and will also serve Akshay Kumar as hero and villain respectively, it will be good for both the film’s business not to release on same weekend.
But another film, directed by Akshay Kumar’s favourite director Neeraj Pandey is also set to release on January 26, 2018.
It is a military drama titled Aiyaary that stars Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra.
