Actor Ramya defends Rashmika Mandanna amid ‘I am from Hyderabad’ controversy: ‘People should stop culture of trolling’
Rashmika Mandanna found herself in hot water due to her comments about being from Hyderabad, and allegedly refusing the invitation to attend the Bengaluru International Film Festival.
Ramya calls out incessant trolling against Rashmika Mandanna.
Rashmika Mandanna might be on cloud nine courtesy her back-to-back blockbusters – Animal, Pushpa 2: The Rule, and Chhaava, however, things took a rather ugly turn recently. During the promotions of Chhaava, when she was asked where she was from, Rashmika replied, “I am from Hyderabad.” This didn’t go down well with sections of Kannadigas, who took offence to this statement because Rashmika is from the Kodau district in Karnataka.
Rashmika, who made her acting debut in the Kannada film Kirik Party, has been facing criticism for sidelining the Kannada film industry, and concentrating on other languages like Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. With this statement from Rashmika, things just got heated up, and it became worse when she was accused of declining the invitation to attend Bengaluru International Film Festival. Karnataka Congress MLA Ravikumar Gowda Ganiga was at the forefront of these accusations, especially saying she ‘forgot her roots.’ Interestingly, at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, actor-politician Ramya, talking in the Women in Cinema panel, spoke about the issue involving Rashmika.

“People should stop this culture of trolling. I see how Rashmika is getting attacked daily and feel bad about it. She is always at the receiving end,” said Ramya. While Rashmika didn’t directly respond to these accusations and trolls, she took to social media, and posted, “Guysss, Try and keep positive as much as possible, Smile – we only got this one life so live it to the fullest. be a little more kinder. everyone is having a hard day in their own ways. give love to others, give love to yourselves and Hydrate as much as possible and give love to your bodies.”
While there was criticism against Rashmika, even Ravikumar’s stance received a lot of flak. BJP leaders took offence to his statements for its propensity of ‘gundagiri’ because he said, “Shouldn’t we teach a lesson?” Responding to the criticism, Ravikumar told ANI, “I stand by my statement. Being a Kannadiga, I am proud of my motherland and language. We are proud of Rashmika Mandanna, but she should not forget her roots. My remarks were not about ‘Gundagiri.’ I am not calling for rowdyism.”
Rashmika Mandanna, who is currently working on multiple projects, will next be seen in AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar, headlined by Salman Khan. She has Rahul Ravindran’s Girlfriend, Sekhar Kammula-Dhanush’s Kubera, and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thama in her kitty.
