Aayush Sharma opens up about not pursuing politics as a career, says he isn’t passionate about public service: ‘Don’t have ability to resonate with people’s emotions’

Salman Khan's brother-in-law, actor Aayush Sharma, spoke about why he decided to pursue acting instead of entering the field of politics like his family members.

Aayush Sharma, who is married to Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita Sharma, comes from a family of politicians in Himachal Pradesh. But despite his father, Anil Sharma, and late grandfather Sukh Ram’s popularity in the field, the actor said that politics is not his cup of tea. Aayush, who is gearing up for the release of the action film Ruslaan, got candid about why he pursued a career in showbiz instead of opting for politics. In an interview with Pinkvilla, he shared that acting was not “definitive” for him because he struggled to crack auditions initially.

“Acting was not a definitive thought process. The thought of not being in politics came only with the emotion that if you can do something with your heart only if you know your heart is in the right place,” he said. Aayush made his acting debut with Loveyatri in 2018 and went on to act in films such as Antim: The Final Truth and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan where he shared the screen space with brother-in-law Salman.

Aayush said that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a politician, unlike his father and grandfather, who had a connection with people. “He (his father Anil Sharma) resonates with their emotions and thought process, I didn’t feel that I have that in me. I am a firm believer in ‘live your dreams’ and even if you don’t have the liberty to live your dreams, at least try attempting once because you should never turn around and say ‘What if!’,” he said.

Aayush admitted that he isn’t passionate about the profession or public service. “Reluctance in any profession wouldn’t have done me well. Today, when I am in the movies, I am passionate about it, I can give it as many hours. I don’t consider this work. I love this part of movie making, telling stories. I love promotions and marketing. This excites me and gives me happiness even today,” he added.

In a 2018 interview with Hindustan Times, Aayush stated that he might foray into the field of politics in the coming years. “I am politically aware of what’s happening but I am not ready… It’s no point getting into a profession of serving people and not doing it with your full heart. So, that’s why I wanted to move out of it, said Aayush, adding, “I would say never say never. Maybe in the near future, when I do feel I am ready or I can help someone, I might go to politics, but not for now,” he said.

Aayush also spoke about the difficult journey he’s faced in his mission to become a leading actor. He told Zoom Entertainment that his father thought he had no chance in Bollywood and discouraged him from pursuing acting. “He was under the impression that after completing college in Mumbai, I’d move back to Himachal. He told me, ‘Look son, you don’t have the height, you don’t have the body, you don’t have the looks. Your hair isn’t great, your voice isn’t great. You walk on the street and nobody is going to give a second glance. You have no chance. You’re not as strong as Dharmendra, you don’t have Amitabh Bachchan’s height, you’re not even as charming as Dev Anand. You have no chance, come back home,” said the 33-year-old.
