Mukesh Rishi said that he left Mumbai to visit his family in Jammu after Sarfarosh released and couldn't capitalise on the buzz generated by the film.

Mukesh Rishi, who is best known for playing Inspector Salim in Aamir Khan-starrer Sarfarosh, recently said that this is one of the most memorable films of his career. Sharing an anecdote after the release of the film, Mukesh said that he was visiting his hometown in Jammu soon after the release of the film as he planned to visit Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. In the meanwhile, Aamir tried to reach out to him as he believed Mukesh might get many film offers after Sarfarosh.

Talking to Radio Nasha, Mukesh said, “I was told that I received a call from Aamir Khan’s place. When I called him back, Aamir asked ‘where are you?’ I told him ‘I am in Jammu’. He said ‘you should be here’. I didn’t understand it at the time but many people later told me that he said the right thing. But I didn’t have business sense back then.”

Mukesh shared that Aamir had thrown a party after the film’s release at his house and this could have led to Mukesh meeting a lot of industry insiders, which could have translated into more opportunities in the film industry. “Aamir had thrown a party at his house. These things matter. Lots of important people must have attended that and that could have led to some meetings,” he said.

Mukesh added that he has no regrets about it though and added, “Maybe this was fate.” He also spoke about the big push his career got after Sarfarosh. “The biggest advantage I got after Sarfarosh was that I started getting projects in south,” he said and mentioned that most of those were negative roles, which was quite a surprise for him at the time since he had played a good-guy in Aamir Khan’s film. But Mukesh added that despite playing many memorable roles in his career, the one that still gets him a lot of respect is Sarfarosh’s Salim.
