Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya took the fight against Anurag Kashyap to a different level on Sunday night when he asked how he dared question Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “insignificant Pakistanis”. He also threatened Kashyap that he will not be spared.

The singer wrote in a tweet, “ये हिम्मत ? तुच्छ दुश्मन पाक आर्टिस्ट के लिए तू को question करता है, इतने गिर गए ? मगर तुम पाक प्रेमियों को छोड़ेंगे नहीं (How dare you? For insignificant Pakistani artistes you are questioning PM, you have fallen so low? You Pak lovers will not be spared).”

In an earlier tweet, Abhijeet said that after Karan Johar, they will be meted out the same treatment. The singer took to his official Twitter account to reply to Anurag’s tweet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which read, “@narendramodi Sir you haven’t yet said sorry for your trip to meet the Pakistani PM.. It was dec 25th. Same time KJo was shooting ADHM? Why?”

Abhijeet wrote to Anurag, tagging Mahesh Bhatt and Karan Johar in the same tweet along with PM Modi, “@narendramodi_in ne pehle baaton se manane Ki koshish Ki, ab unhe laat maara, aap kataar me hain, @karanjohar ke baad @MaheshNBhatt.”

In fact, earlier in the day, addressing PM Modi on Twitter, Abhijeet said that people like him will handle “anti India Brigade” and the Prime Minister can continue making India proud. This is not the first time that Abhijeet has spoken against Karan Johar. He has targeted Karan for casting Fawad Khan in his film a number of times.

In fact, Abhijeet is not the only one to take a stand against Anurag Kashyap, hours after the director targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking apology for his Pakistan trip in December last year. Madhur Bhandarkar also slammed Kashyap for his ‘protest’. When Bhandarkar was asked about his reaction on Kashyap’s statements, he said, “Whatever Anurag Kashyap said is wrong, Neither BJP nor the Government issued any ban, it has become a trend to protest against Modi Ji.”

While all of this is leading to a discussion on Twitter, Anurag decided to keep away from naming anyone and just said that he would directly speak to PM Modi. He wrote a couple of tweets, “I refuse to live in the fear created by blind fanatics that you cannot have a conversation with your PM or question him or expect from him.”

He continued, “I would rather ask my questions directly to the PM than trying to impress him by fake nationalism of banning what puts you in news.”

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was in the eye of the storm in the aftermath of the Uri attack that killed 18 Indian soldiers. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena threatened all Pakistani artists working in India to leave the country. Ever since, the debate on the ban of artists from the neighbouring country hasn’t died down. Recently, Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) announced that they would not screen Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan in four states, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Goa. A lot of people from the industry have come out in support of Johar, who will bear a lot of losses if the COEAI doesn’t change its decision on the movie that’s slated to release on October 28, just two days before Diwali.
