Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan on Monday said the Congress high command should keep “tainted” Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other ministers away from contesting the assembly elections.

Referring to solar scam accused Saritha S Nair’s allegation that Chandy and others sexually abused her, Achuthanandan said the Congress in Kerala had misused the government machinery for the immoral activities of party leaders.

“Never before the state had confronted such a situation. A detailed probe should be held to bring Chandy and other ministers to the book,” said Achuthanandan.

He said one need not worry about the authenticity of the letter purportedly written by Nair.

“Chandy and his cabinet colleagues had polluted the public life in Kerala. Chandy has the responsibility to prove that the allegations leveled against him are baseless.

“Nair’s revelations against Chandy have taken Keralites self respect to the end bottom. Now it is clear why Chandy had fervently advocated for his tainted cabinet colleagues and confidants before the party high command,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chandy said one can raise allegations against anyone, but what matters is whether there is any substance in the allegations.

“If there is an iota of truth in what has been alleged, the situation is alarming. There are strong financial forces behind revealing Nair’s letter. Those who benefit from toppling the Congress government are behind the conspiracy,” said Chandy.
