A Congress candidate in the just-concluded Assam polls has been “traceless” for a week now after police issued at least two notices to him in connection with an FIR in which a woman has accused him of rape.

“A woman has lodged an FIR against Pranjit Choudhury accusing him of committing rape and also cheating her. We have not been able to trace him,” Police Commissioner Mukesh Agrawal said Monday.
Choudhury (39), a former Youth Congress leader, was the Congress candidate for the Kamalpur segment in Kamrup district.

In Kamalpur, several women’s organizations on Saturday and Sunday held demonstrations demanding immediate arrest of the Congress leader.

If he is proven guilty, the Congress will definitely not stand by him,” chief minister Gogoi had said two days ago.
