Tension between students and the administration at Jawaharlal Nehru University over the new hostel manual continued Friday, with the Vice-Chancellor accusing the former of keeping the Associate Dean of Students (ADoS) in “illegal captivity”.
“Dr Vandana Mishra, Associate Dean of Students, is being kept in illegal captivity by some JNU students since morning. She is still confined in her classroom in SIS (School of International School) building. Her health is deteriorating. This is shameful and unbecoming of students,” V-C M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted Friday night.
An appeal was also issued by 15 of the 20 Deans and Chairpersons of Special Centres Friday, saying the ongoing strike called by the JNU Students’ Union has brought “academic life” under “severe threat”.
However, students and teachers claimed classes were taking place in car parks, under trees and in open spaces.
