Only half of the students who appeared for BSc final semester exams have passed, show the results declared by the University of Mumbai (MU) on Saturday. Interestingly, only nine per cent of the total students who appeared for the exams in the 60:40 scheme could clear the exams.

The Mumbai university operates a credit system based on external and internal assessment. Under the 60:40 system, 60 per cent of the marks were for external assessment and 40 per cent for internal assessment.

Last year it changed this system to bring in 75:25 credit scheme where 75 per cent marks were to be assessed externally. Of the 17,869 students who appeared in both the scheme, 8,628 students passed.

“Students can log on to the website and check if they passed or failed. They can find out their marks from their colleges from Monday,” said Deepak Wasave Controller of Examination (CoE).

In the 75:25 marking scheme, 309 students scored grade O (outstanding) and maximum number of students scored grade A. The overall pass percentage in 75:25 scheme has been recorded at 50.83.

Meanwhile, in the 60:40 scheme, of the 659 students who appeared, only 54 passed. These students had failed last year. Though this year the university changed its pattern to 75 marks for written test and 25 internal marks, the repeaters were made to write the test in the old pattern — 60 marks for external and 40 for internal assessment.

The university is yet to announce date of issuance of marksheets.

“Our priority was to declare results at the earliest. We will soon declare the date from which marksheets will be made available to students,” said Wasave.

On Friday, the university announced that TY BCom results will be declared on June 24.
