Khan academy launches its Hindi version

Khan Academy is an online learning platform which offers free resources for both educators and students

Khan Academy, the US-based non-profit organisation and learning portal, launched its Hindi version in New Delhi on Thursday. The platform will initially cover a select range of grades for the NCERT-mapped maths curriculum.

Salman Khan, the founder of the Khan Academy, said, “Online learning is a powerful platform and our aim is to provide education anywhere and everywhere in the world. Indian curriculum is pretty similar from the US and we have seen millions of Indian students registering to the Khan Academy. Therefore, we have come with the Hindi website hi.khanacademy.org to make learning easier.”

The Hindi platform will contain practice exercises, instructional videos, dashboard analytics and teacher tools to empower learners in and outside of the classroom to study. The learning experience helps each individual to see their progress and goals, creates personalised recommendations about what to learn next and motivates them to master the skills they seek.

In 2012, the Academy had around 2.1 million users, and by the end of 2015 it estimates more than 8 million users in India. Globally, it estimates to cross 20 million users by the end of the month.

The Academy is present in 190 countries with around 13 lakh registered educators and 33,500,000 students.
Besides English and Hindi, their resources are being translated into more than 36 languages. They claim to have answered over 440 crore problems.

Khan said they he is motivated with the Indian Government’s focus on education. “I have recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Silicon Valley and he has shown interest in our work,” said Khan.

The Academy has been praised by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and is funded by philanthropic organisations. “We have received a good response from India. In fact, we are in touch with Tata Trusts regarding the same,” said Khan.

Khan Academy has collaborated with Central Square Foundation, a grantmaking organisation and policy think tank focused on improving quality of school education in India. Sandeep Bapna is appointed as India country manager.
