JEE Main is one of the most competitive exams in India and tricky multiple choice questions always disturb students. In this scenario, a student will require a good understanding of concepts, however, smart techniques like option elimination will take students to score to the next level.
This elimination option method is going to eliminate incorrect choices of a multiple-choice question. You do not need to solve the problem but will eliminate the wrong answers by using common sense, math, and patterns to choose the right option. So, the elimination method saves you time and boosts your chances of selecting the correct option in the JEE Main 2025 question paper.
Benefits of applying option elimination in JEE Main
1. Save time: The time limit of JEE Main is very less, and it is quite challenging to attempt all the questions. Elimination of wrong options saves your precious time and makes you attempt more questions in lesser time.
2. Increases precision- If you don’t know an answer, you may end up reducing your marks because of the negative marking system. Option elimination educates your guess, and chances of error decrease.
3. Some questions, especially those of physics and chemistry, seem complicated. The option-elimination technique may reduce the complexity for logical reasoning purposes rather than relying on long-length calculations.
There are many tips to apply option elimination in different subjects:
1. Chemistry: In the organic chemistry category, eliminate all options that seem to not support the known mechanism of reaction.
– Cross out the options in inorganic chemistry and use periodic trends for unlikely choices.
2. For physics, use dimensional analysis to see if the units of each answer choice work.
– Eliminate the answer choices that violate the basic laws of physics, such as energy conservation or laws of motion.
3. Mathematics- Fill in the given options and see which one balances the equation

– Look out for units and dimensions in physics questions
– Get rid of options that go against the basic concepts or formulas
– Substitute the value instead of solving it completely
– Be wary of extreme values. These are usually wrong.
It is essential to practice the option elimination tricks. Solving mock tests and past JEE Main papers will help you to hone your skills. While practising, try to eliminate options even when you are sure of the correct answer. This habit will save time for you in the actual exam.
While it is correct that eliminating options helps, it is not solely dependent on this method. It is a supporting tool when you are not confident about your answer. Focus first on developing your core concepts and use these tricks to enhance your performance.
