JEE Advanced 2024 girl topper: ‘Being consistent is the key to success,’ says Dwija Patel (AIR 7)

As the JEE-Advanced result was declared on June 9, Dwija Patel from Gujarat’s Rajkot has emerged as the female topper across the country. She scored 332/360 and got an overall All-India rank 7. She appeared for the JEE Advanced from IIT Bombay zone.

Like most high scorers, Dwija is happy to know that her entry to IIT Bombay in the CSE branch is now almost final as she features among the top 10 JEE-Advanced candidates.

Daughter of a mathematics teacher, Dwija took a liking to this subject at a very young age. “My father is a mathematics teacher in school. I developed a love for the subject. I was sure to take engineering for higher education and began my preparation early on,” said Dwija, who joined Allen coaching institute in Rajkot from her Class 11. Dwija’s mother is a homemaker and her younger brother is in Class 5.

According to Dwija, it was important to stay at home for her preparation. “Shifting to any other place means you will take a while to adjust to the new set-up. Unlike that, at home, you can just focus on your studies. I was sure of joining a nearby coaching institute so that I could stay comfortably at home,” said Dwija.

Even as she studied for 8-10 hours a day, Dwija would find time to binge-watch her favourite web series such as Friends, Suits among all. But all this on her mother’s phone as she did not have her mobile phone until after JEE-Advanced paper was over. “Not having your own phone helped in a way. I would get to use my mother’s phone whenever required and then focus on studies,” said Dwija who says starting early and being consistent is a key to success apart from solving multiple practice tests.
