The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Patna and IIT Gandhinagar are both rising stars in the engineering world. As these institutions gain prominence, it is important to examine their placement records over the years to help prospective students make informed decisions.
IIT Patna, established in 2008, and IIT Gandhinagar, also founded in 2008, have quickly made their mark. According to the NIRF 2024 Engineering Rankings, IIT Patna is ranked 34th, while IIT Gandhinagar holds the 18th position. These rankings reflect their growing reputations, but how do they compare when it comes to placements? Let’s explore the data from 2018 to 2023 to find out.
Average salary
IIT Patna has shown a consistent upward trajectory in average salaries offered to its CSE graduates. In 2018-19, the average salary was Rs 16.5 lakh per annum, which steadily increased to Rs 25 lakh per annum by 2022-23. This growth signifies IIT Patna’s ability to attract better compensation packages year after year.
Similarly, IIT Gandhinagar has also demonstrated steady improvement in average salaries. Starting at Rs 17 lakh per annum in 2018-19, the average salary reached Rs 24.5 lakh per annum by 2022-23. Although slightly behind IIT Patna, IIT Gandhinagar’s consistent growth highlights its competitiveness in the job market.
Highest salary packages
When it comes to the highest salary packages, IIT Patna has consistently led the way. In 2018-19, the highest package was Rs 40 lakh per annum, and this figure rose to Rs 56 lakh per annum in 2022-23. This progression underscores IIT Patna’s ability to secure top-tier offers for its students.
On the other hand, IIT Gandhinagar’s highest salary packages have also been on the rise, albeit at a slightly lower level. The highest package in 2018-19 was Rs 35 lakh per annum, increasing to Rs 45 lakh per annum in 2022-23. While these figures are impressive, they still trail behind IIT Patna’s top offers.
Placement participation and success rate
The placement success rate at both institutions has remained robust over the years. IIT Patna’s placement rate improved from 88 per cent in 2018-19 to 95 per cent in 2022-23. This steady increase reflects the growing demand for IIT Patna graduates in the job market.
IIT Gandhinagar, too, has maintained a strong placement rate, growing from 87 per cent in 2018-19 to 94.44 per cent in 2022-23. Although slightly lower than IIT Patna’s placement rate, IIT Gandhinagar’s consistent performance is noteworthy.
Industry distribution and internship offers
In terms of industry distribution, IIT Patna has seen a dominant presence in the IT sector, with 35.9 per cent of placements in 2022-23. This trend has been consistent across previous years. Additionally, IIT Patna has placed a significant emphasis on internships, with over 55 per cent of its CSE students securing internships in core industries each year.
IIT Gandhinagar, on the other hand, boasts a more diverse industry distribution, with strong placements in analytics, consulting, and manufacturing sectors. The institution also prioritizes practical industry exposure, consistently facilitating internships for its students.
Over the years, both IIT Patna and IIT Gandhinagar have demonstrated strong placement records, with IIT Patna taking the lead in terms of average and highest salary packages. This consistent performance makes IIT Patna an attractive choice for students seeking high-paying job offers. However, IIT Gandhinagar remains a competitive option, with diverse industry connections and a stable placement rate. Aspiring engineers should consider their career goals and industry preferences when choosing between these two institutions, both of which offer excellent opportunities in Computer Science Engineering.
