A tent was put up, the crowd huddled below, as littis were fried and chokha served near the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station Thursday evening. It wasn’t a feast, but a protest by students, staff and teachers of Delhi University who are opposed to the construction of a 39-storey building near the Metro station by a private builder. A candle light march was also taken out by the protesters.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had acquired 3.05 hectares of land from the Defence Ministry in 2001, of which the Metro station was built on 1 hectare of land. The rest was given to a company, which is planning to build residential flats.
