Among the 12 measures being implemented by the Gurgaon district administration “due to high levels of PM 2.5” is a decision to close all schools — government and private — for two days. Confirming this, Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Pratap Singh, said on Thursday, “All government and private schools in Gurgaon are to be closed for the next two days, November 10 and 11, due to the continuing smog situation as per the Graded Response Action Plan.” With schools in Delhi NCR being shut because of the severe pollution levels in the region till Sunday, some have come up with ways to complete the minimum number of days they are supposed to teach for.
Ardee School, New Friends Colony, took the help of technology to teach students on Thursday. Teachers, who were in school, gave lectures over video while children logged in from home and attended ‘classes’. “There should not be a break in continuity. We are also obligated to teach for a certain minimum number of days in a year. So while the students were not in class today, classes took place and the school, effectively, was working,” said Shefali Varma, chairperson, Ardee School.
