CBSE flags poor-quality, inaccurate NCERT textbook copies sold at discounts, issues advisory

CBSE Textbook Advisory: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a public advisory warning schools and parents about the circulation of counterfeit NCERT textbooks in the market. According to the official notice, the board has received information that “unauthorised book sellers are supplying counterfeit/fake versions of NCERT textbooks at discounted prices.”

These fake books reportedly suffer from poor print quality and content inaccuracies, raising concerns about their potential impact on students’ learning.

CBSE has urged all affiliated schools to advise parents to purchase only authentic NCERT textbooks through approved channels. The board noted that fake textbooks “may adversely affect the learning experience of students,” highlighting the importance of ensuring accuracy and quality in prescribed learning material.

Schools that procure NCERT books directly have been instructed to do so only from authorised sources specified by CBSE and NCERT. As per the advisory, genuine NCERT textbooks can be purchased from Regional Production and Distribution Centres (RPDCs), authorised vendors listed on the NCERT website, the NCERT postal supply service on the official portal, and the official NCERT storefront on Amazon.
