Ask 16-year-old Muskaan Vasandani from Delhi Public School how she managed 99.6 per cent in her CBSE Std X exams and her answer is simple – a good balancing act between academics and art.
Muskaan, who has been taking art classes for the last 10 years, used her art to de-stress during her exams and even preparations.
Muskaan says she studied only for about 3-4 hours every day. “I didn’t even follow a rigid study plan. I also didn’t attend any extra tuition classes whatsoever,” says the school topper, while attributing her success to the help given to her by her mother as well her school teachers.
However, Muskaan does admit to having brought changes in her everyday routine during the last year. “I ensured I got up early, did a little bit of exercise and avoided junk food. It is equally important to stay healthy as it is to study well,” she says.
Muskaan, who is aiming to get into a good junior college for studying science, says her ultimate aim is to do scientific research in the future, preferably in biotechnology or biogenetics. However, studies aren’t the only thing that keep her busy. An avid reader of novels by J K Rowling, Arthur Conan Doyle and Dan Brown, says she has participated in national level science Olympiads and even won a scholarship of Rs 50,000 besides participating in community service projects in her school.
For now though, she is basking in her academic success. “To score such a high percentile feels wonderful. I would like to thank my parents, my teachers and my principal. Their support was immense and I am very grateful to do have done so well,” she says.
