The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur will be conducting the Joint Admission Process (JAP) 2026 for admission to MBA programmes. JAP 2026 will be applicable for admissions to three other IIMs, namely, IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi and IIM Tiruchirappalli. The institutes, in a statement, informed that the move is aimed at introducing a common admission framework while retaining institute-specific selection criteria.

According to the official notification, the joint process has been designed to streamline candidate evaluation and reduce duplication of admission procedures across participating IIMs. While the admission framework will be standardised, each institute will continue to apply its own academic and selection requirements while preparing final merit lists.

The next phase of the JAP 2026 admission cycle is set to begin soon, with the results for CAT 2025 announced earlier this week. Following the results, the participating IIMs will release minimum eligibility criteria, including academic benchmarks and CAT score requirements. Candidates meeting these cut-offs will be eligible to move to the next stage of the process.

Eligible candidates will be required to complete a mandatory registration on the JAP 2026 online portal within the stipulated timeline. Only registered candidates will be considered for further evaluation under the joint framework, the institutes said.

Shortlisting for the Personal Interview (PI) round will be done from the pool of registered candidates. Category-wise and institute-specific cut-offs for PI shortlisting will be announced separately by each participating IIM. The PI rounds are tentatively scheduled to be held between February and March 2026, with detailed schedules and guidelines to be released closer to the interview window.

IIM Raipur has been designated as the coordinating institute for JAP 2026 and will oversee the implementation of the process, including coordination among the participating IIMs and management of the common admission framework.

Why the move away from CAP?

The announcement comes against the backdrop of IIM Raipur’s earlier decision to exit the Common Admission Process (CAP), which is followed by several second- and third-generation IIMs. In the previous admission cycle, IIM Raipur and IIM Sambalpur had opted out of CAP, which at the time included 10 IIMs such as Jammu, Bodhgaya, Kashipur, Ranchi, Trichy, Nagpur and Udaipur.

Explaining the decision then, IIM Raipur director Professor Ram Kumar Kakani had said that the institute was looking to admit candidates with a stronger entrepreneurial mindset, which it felt was not adequately assessed through CAP’s online-only interview process. The institute had also cited the need for greater control over profile-based selection and the ability to conduct offline interviews across multiple cities.
