BHU to use UGC, CSIR NET scores for PhD admission 2024; check eligibility criteria

The university has decided not to conduct a research entrance test and announced eligibility criteria. The detailed PhD information bulletin 2024 will be released at the official website -- bhu.ac.in.

BHU PhD Admissions 2024: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has decided to use the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET) 2024 scores for admission to PhD programmes for the 2024-25 academic session.

BHU informed that the detailed PhD information bulletin 2024 will be released at the official website — bhu.ac.in

The university announced that no separate research test will be conducted for BHU PhD admissions from this year onwards. Banaras Hindu University advised interested candidates to apply for the UGC NET June 2024 or CSIR NET June 2024 exams to get admission to research programmes. UGC has allowed universities to use NET scores for PhD admissions.

“Based on the public notification dated March 27 of the University Grants Commission, the BHU has decided that the score of the UGC/CSIR NET Examination, June 2024 shall be used for admission to the PhD programme for the upcoming academic session and no separate research entrance test will be conducted by the University,” BHU said in an official notice.

Eligibility Criteria 

— The JRF-qualified candidates will be eligible for consideration under the RET-exempted mode.

— The JRF-qualified candidates as well as the candidates qualified for the categories II and III of the UGC/CSIR NET June 2024 shall be eligible for consideration under the RET mode. 

— For admission to the PhD programme under RET mode in the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the score of the Agricultural Services Recruitment Board (ASRB) examination 2024 shall be used.

BHU informed that it offers two modes of PhD admissions – Research Entrance Test (RET) mode and Research Entrance Test Exempted (RET-Exempted) mode. Earlier score of NET shall not be valid for PhD admission for the upcoming academic session, BHU said.
