At the end of a high-voltage campaign in Karnataka, the BJP seems to have begun the stock-taking exercise on the role played by each leader and the response of the crowd. The section close to B S Yeddiyurappa, who obviously topped the charts among the state leaders, attending nearly 85 election programmes, ensured that his son B Y Vijayendra also had an extensive tour programme beyond his constituency — Shikaripura. With Yeddyurappa declaring Vijayendra as his political successor, the latter was asked by the party to campaign — or at least show up for a road show or make a flying visit — in several constituencies. Unlike other candidates, Vijayendra covered 25 constituencies across 13 districts. Due to an intense campaign in his own constituency, he had to turn down many requests. With such a hectic campaign schedule, Vijayendra seems to have ensured that he cannot be ignored by the national leadership.

Video Versus Video

While the Congress on Tuesday approached the EC, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of violating the silence period under the model code of conduct by releasing a video appeal to Karnataka voters, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also posted a video appeal on Twitter. In the three-minute video clip in Kannada, Kharge asks people of Karnataka to vote for his party.
