Going All Out
FROM AN op-ed in London-based Financial Times criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his demonetisation decision to getting panned by the BJP over a tweet, Rahul Gandhi had an interesting day on Tuesday. Gandhi tweeted the picture of a weeping old man, who was apparently trying to exchange banned bank notes last year. The picture had gone viral in the days following the demonetisation announcement. The man, identified as ex-serviceman Nandlal, however, praised the government on ANI: “Main to kehta hu ke fayeda hua… ugrawadiyon ne shor macha rakha tha na…” In his FT op-ed, Gandhi accused the PM of having robbed India’s economic prowess and damaged India by converting anger created by joblessness and lack of economic opportunity into communal hatred.

Jha, a 2002 batch Uttarakhand cadre IAS officer, came on central deputation in 2014 and cited personal reasons for moving back to his cadre. Jha is likely to be replaced by 2004 batch IAS from the Bihar cadre, Kundan Kumar. He earlier served as private secretary to Rajiv Pratap Rudy when Rudy was in-charge of the skill development ministry.
