Solicitor General Tushar Mehta Monday cited a “recent serial in Hindi concerning the legal profession” to drive home his contention that the film Aankh Micholi, which has been sued for allegedly being derogatory to people with disabilities, is after all a work of art and there are limits to interfering.

Arguing before a bench presided by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, which is hearing appeals against the Delhi High Court order dismissing the challenge to the film, the SG referring to the Hindi serial said “it’s not even laughable.

It says somebody in Delhi is contesting elections so that he can become Advocate General, thereafter Solicitor General and eventually Attorney General. That is his kind of a manifesto for conducting elections. It’s stupid but how do you prevent them”. Though he did not name the serial, the reference was apparently to Mamla Legal Hai which was released on Netflix.

Strategic Visit

There was a surprise visitor at BJP headquarters on Monday in Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who is the party’s candidate from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi Lok Sabha seat. With most of the leaders busy campaigning, the party office is relatively deserted these days, but Ranaut could meet national general secretary Tarun Chugh and national media co-head Sanjay Mayukh.

This was Kangana’s first visit to the party office since her candidacy was announced and she happily posed for pictures with the staff and mediapersons.

Sources said Ranaut is in Delhi to strategise with senior leaders how to take on her opponent Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress, considered to be a formidable candidate.
