Not that Maldives is trending only on social media, the island nation has caught the top court’s fancy too. Hearing a plea by a company that bid for a proposed seaplane service to the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, only to be blacklisted later, Justice J B Pardiwala, who was part of the three-judge bench, pointed out that the aircraft planned to be used for it had to go to Maldives for repairs. He asked Senior Advocate Menaka Guruswamy, who appeared for the firm, where it will now take its aircraft for repairs. Guruswamy said “we will bring in a new aircraft if considered for a project like this”, and added that she is told that “we can now repair this in India. That capability has been developed”.
With Ayodhya on top of the priority list, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s itinerary these days has one or the other programme linked to Lord Ram or characters from the Ramayana. During his recent visit to Maharashtra, the Prime Minister
visited Kalaram temple dedicated to Lord Ram in Panchvati area. During his Andhra Pradesh visit on Tuesday, Modi went to Veerabhadra temple in Lepakshi, where Jatayu, the giant eagle that tipped Lord Ram about his wife’s abduction by demon king Ravan, got divine liberation. On Wednesday, Modi will have darshan and puja at Kerala’s Shree Ramaswami temple in Thriprayar in Thrissur.
Even though the general elections are yet to be announced, planning for mobilisation of paramilitary personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) has begun. Training of personnel and stocktaking of security equipment in several battalions have already started. Senior officials in the forces said the reason behind early preparations is to avoid chaos at the last minute when the election dates are declared.
