Asaduddin Owaisi, president of AIMIM
Asaduddin Owaisi, president of AIMIM, which is in alliance with the Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) in Uttar Pradesh, was scheduled to attend multiple programmes in eastern UP on Tuesday. The Apna Dal (K) leadership in Varanasi — where the party has fielded a candidate against PM Narendra Modi — had taken permission for a joint roadshow in the temple town on May 28, the same day when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav were to hold a public meeting there. However, there was one problem — the Apna Dal (K) leaders didn’t inform anyone in Owaisi’s team about the proposed roadshow. A day before the programme, AIMIM leaders had to tell the Apna Dal (K) leaders to go ahead with the roadshow without Owaisi. Finally, the two parties decided on a middle ground, which was that Owaisi will address a press conference in Varanasi on Tuesday evening.
The success of its first accessibility help desk, opened a few months ago, has encouraged the Supreme Court to plan three more desks to help those in need of assistance in accessing the court. The help desks function under the recently opened first-of-its-kind ‘Accessibility and Inclusion Section’, which caters not just to the differently abled but also those who find it difficult to approach the court. Sources said the infrastructure arrangements are in place and the counters are likely to open after the court’s summer recess.
