Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Films on political leaders have always generated a lot of interest and talk, especially those released ahead of elections. If it was The Accidental Prime Minister, a movie on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that hit theatres three months before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, this time there’s a biopic on Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. It will open in theatres later this month, just before five states go to Assembly polls in November. Many in the BJP and the Opposition are eagerly waiting to watch the film on Gadkari’s political journey, his struggles and experiences.
Even as a Parliamentary Standing Committee is examining the three new criminal law Bills, a crucial suggestion to replace “shall” with “may” in a provision in the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita came from the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. A bench of justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal was hearing a case in which a person who was acquitted by the court was still in jail for failing to furnish the surety bond. While the Centre took refuge under the proposed Bill, which it said will remove this mandatory requirement, the court noted that the proposed Bill has merely reproduced the old provisions without any changes.
