
Nearly two years after he joined the Congress, former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar has finally got a full-time organisational responsibility in the party. He was made in-charge of NSUI, the party’s students’ wing which he fought against as a political rival in JNU. At the Capital’s premier university, Kumar was leader of the CPI’s student wing, AISF. There was no immediate reaction from Kumar, who was speculated to be in the reckoning for bigger roles such as a state Congress president’s post — in his home state, Bihar, and then that of Delhi. Kumar, nursing a niggle in his shoulder for long, is said to be away from Delhi, undergoing yoga therapy. He was among those who had walked with Rahul Gandhi from Kanyakumari to Kashmir during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Officials and other visitors to Supreme Court during the recently concluded summer recess were surprised to spot Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud doing recce of the premises on some of these days. Dressed in casuals, the CJI went about inspecting cleanliness and ongoing civil works without attracting much attention. There were multiple projects going on in the SC at that time, including installation of WiFi services, fencing of garden, and installation of digital devices in courtrooms, among others. After the recce, the CJI would proceed to his chamber and discuss progress of the works with the staff and contractors.
