BJP leader Shaina N.C. often wins praises for the way she defends the party on TV news debates. But on Monday, when she visited Parliament House, Shaina was lauded for a different reason. The efforts of her NGO, ‘I Love Mumbai’ — along with that of heritage conservation architect Abha Lamba and Bajaj Trust — to restore Byculla railway station in Mumbai has won a UNESCO award. The restoration project for the 169-year-old structure — the oldest functioning railway station in India — has won UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Award. When Shaina, Lamba and Minal Bajaj met Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Parliament today, the minister told them that Byculla station will be a model for restoration of many other old railway stations in India. The project was undertaken without any funds from the Railways.

Having removed “India” from his Twitter bio, and replacing it with “Bharat”, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday explained the reason behind the move. “In my previous bio, I mentioned Assam, INDIA. However, I forgot to update it after my journey from the INDIAN National Congress to the BHARATIYA Janata Party. Now, I have proudly changed my bio to Assam, BHARAT. Some friends from Congress are asking me why I changed my bio. I hope this explanation will satisfy them,” Sarma tweeted.
Moved Out
Special Director with the Intelligence Bureau and an IB veteran, Safi Rizvi, has been moved out of the agency through an order of curtailment of tenure by the government. An IPS officer of UP cadre, Rizvi was instrumental in preparing a 2015 report on NGOs that pegged the loss to GDP due to their activities at 3%. The government has now appointed him as adviser to the National Disaster Management Authority.
