Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is understood to have instructed members of the disciplinary committee to take action against Trinamool Congress MLA Sikha Mitra for her diatribe against the partys policy makers and politics of sycophancy.
Sikha,MLA from Sealdah and wife of MP Somen Mitra, yesterday launched a vitriolic attack against the Trinamool leadership during an event to pay tribute to former chief minister B C Roy at Bidhan Bhavan, the West Bengal Pradesh Congress headquarters.
What Sikha Mitra said is under scrutiny of the disciplinary committee and we will take a decision at an appropriate time, MP Subrata Buxi,a member of the committee, told The Indian Express today.
The chief minister, who presided over a meeting of all Trinamool MPs,MLAs and elected representatives to civic bodies at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra today, told her colleagues to ignore the alleged calumnies against her party. Both Sikha and Somen did not attend the meeting.
Yesterday Sikha said she was pained at not being allowed to do anything for the people who elected her.
I cannot work here,so I cannot understand why I should continue as an MLA. It also baffles me why the chief minister says she cannot work because she is not getting money from the Centre. Remember B C Roy,who took over as chief minister at a disastrous time. He never cribbed for money, Sikha had said.
The MLA from Sealdah also said that she held Pranab Mukherjee as the best candidate for the post of President.
Sikhas remarks reportedly enraged Mamata so much that she called three members of the disciplinary committee late last evening – Partha Chatterjee,Mukul Roy and Subrata Buxi – and asked them to take action against Sikha.
According to sources,Sikha was prodded by her husband Somen, who has of late distanced himself from the Trinamool. He antagonised Mamata by writing to the Union ministry of surface transport demanding a CBI inquiry into the shipping ministry when Mukul Roy was the minister of state for shipping. He also wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding a probe against the owner of a chit fund who is allegedly close to the CM.
Somen is the third Trinamool MP after Kabir Suman and Dinesh Trivedi to openly revolt against Mamata. When contacted, however,he said he had no problems with Mamata. I do not want anything from anybody. But I have always upheld the truth, Mitra told The Indian Express.
In 1997,Mamata had revolted against Somen, then Pradesh Congress president, and set up the Trinamool Congress. In 2008 Somen joined the Trinamool and Mamata fielded him from Diamond Harbour parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha election of 2009.
A group of Congressmen staged a protest at Bidhan Bhavan today, shouting slogans against the state leadership including Pradesh Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya. They alleged that the present leadership was trying to bring the Mitra couple back into Congress.
Bhattacharya retorted,Who are these people? They must have been backed by the Trinamool.
