Security stepped up for Narendra Modi’s Agra rally

There is a general alert from intelligence agencies about security threats to Modi’s rally in Agra.

After his Bahraich rally,UP Police have enhanced the security arrangements for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s Agra rally scheduled Thursday.

While a team of top cops from Gujarat are camping in the tourism city to coordinate with the state police officials,the Agra police have sensitised a radius of four-kilometre around rally venue.

As per the UP Home Department,there is a general alert from intelligence agencies about security threats to Modi’s rally in Agra.

More than 4,000 security personnel have been deployed around the venue — Kothi Meena Bazar — where BJP is expecting a crowd of around three lakh.

Agra SSP Shalabh Mathur told The Indian Express that verification of 200 tenants living in the houses within four km around the rally ground has been done and the house owners in the area have been instructed not to rent out their rooms till the rally is over.

For Advanced Security Liaison (ASL),an IG rank official,a DIG and a SP from Gujarat arrived at Agra three days ago and are coordinating with the UP Police for security arrangements.

At least 50 commandos of UP Anti Terror Squad (ATS) have been deployed close to the stage and around the rally ground,confirmed the SSP.

About 11 CCTV cameras have been installed and a control room has been set up at the ground to keep watch on every movement. No person is allowed to carry items like match box,cigarette or lighter to the rally ground.

Agra Range DIG Vijay Singh Meena said Narendra Modi has Z+ security and the arrangements are being made as per the norms.

The DIG also said there is no specific intelligence alert,but they have received a general alert regarding the security threat.

The rally will begin 12:30 pm,Modi with party national president Rajnath Singh will arrive at the ground at 2:45 pm.
