According to forest officials, the tiger left the boy only after his father and grandfather raised an alarm. The boy, identified as Arpit Mishra, suffered injuries on his back. He was admitted to the hospital.

The tiger had killed a woman near Gajraula village on Tuesday. Singh said they were verifying if it was the same tiger who was seen moving in Puranpur forest range. A tranquilising team from WTI was called to the area in July but they could not start the operation in the absence of elephants, said Singh. He said he had sought funds from the forest department to bring elephants from Dudhwa National Park but to no avail.
