Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly and BSPs national general secretary Swami Prasad Maurya today said that another foodgrain scam may be taking place in the state under the Samajwadi Party government.
He alleged massive irregularities in wheat procurement at least in five districts Gorakhpur,Faizabad,Sitapur,Allahabad and Shahjahanpur.
Addressing a press conference,Maurya claimed various wheat procurement centres had purchased about 3,106 metric ton wheat in Gorakhpur district till June 30,2012. However, the procured wheat is still to reach godowns concerned, he said. Similar is the situation in Maharajganj district where procurement centres purchased about 3,400 metric ton wheat and this also could not reach the godown concerned.
He further added the wheat purchased by such centres in Faizabad district was also yet to be stored in FCI godowns. He cited another example of Sitapur as a place from where wheat was missing from the godowns. He claimed that trucks which were used to carry the foodgrains stored in FCI godown in Allahabad for its distribution among poor people through PDS shops went to Bangalore.
Maurya said these are few examples, which show another foodgrain scam taking place in the state. He recalled the foodgrain scam, which is being probed by the CBI at present, had taken place during the previous regime of the Samajwadi Party in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006.
He questioned the allocation of Food and Civil Supplies portfolio to Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya who held it when the first scam took place during the previous Mulayam Singh government. However,Maurya did not name Raja Bhaiya, but identified him as the minister who has got the same portfolio for a second time.
