A day after the police registered a criminal case against her based on her latest revelations, Swapna Suresh, a key accused in the gold smuggling case, on Thursday moved an anticipatory bail plea in Kerala High Court. Suresh, in the plea, alleged that a man had come to meet her on behalf of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and threatened her that she would be charged with non-bailable offences if she did not withdraw the statements she had given under section 164 of CrPC in Kochi.

On Wednesday, the police registered a case against Suresh and controversial politician P C George following a complaint from former minister K T Jaleel, who alleged that she had raised defamatory statements against the chief minister, the government and him concerning the smuggling case. Suresh, after giving a statement as per section 164 of CrPC in a court in Kochi, alleged on Tuesday that CM Vijayan had taken a bag full of currency to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2016 with the help of a diplomat. She also raised allegations against Vijayan’s wife Kamala and daughter Veena.
