Playback singer P Jayachandran, who recorded over 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, dies at 80

The singer died around 7.55pm while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, hospital sources said. He was taken to the hospital after collapsing at his residence on Thursday, they said. He had been unwell for quite some time.

Renowned playback singer P Jayachandran, affectionately called ‘Bhava Gayakan’ for his soulful renditions that beautifully expressed emotions such as love, longing, and devotion, died in Thrissur on Thursday. He was 80.

The singer died around 7.55pm while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, hospital sources said. He was taken to the hospital after collapsing at his residence on Thursday, they said. He had been unwell for quite some time.

The singer recorded over 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi in a career spanning over five decades.

Many of his songs, which came out in the 1970s and 80, still remain evergreen for generations of music lovers.
