With less than a fortnight left for the phase 1 polling in Gujarat, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is all set to address his first public meeting from South Gujarat near Panchkakda village in Mahuva taluka of Surat district on November 21. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend a roadshow in Vapi and address a public meeting in Valsad on November 19, Saturday.
AICC Gujarat incharge Raghu Sharma, Praveen Khera, Bharatsinh Solanki and Vansda Congress MLA Anant Patel, among others, were in Navsari to review preparations ahead of Rahul’s public meeting in South Gujarat. Panchkakda borders the Vansda seat of Navsari district.
“We have got confirmation from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about his visit to Gujarat. We are expecting over one lakh people. The tribal community has great respect for the Gandhi family,” said Anant Patel.
Congress leader Gaurav Pandya said, “He (Rahul) has been marching for around 2,000 kilometres on foot for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which no political leader has done so far. He had agreed to spend some time for the public meeting in South Gujarat. We have come to know that since PM Narendra Modi had earlier addressed public meetings at Panchkakda village, there is even a readymade helipad over there. The ground has a capacity for around two lakh people. So, there is no shortage of space.”
PM Modi is expected to address a public meeting and a roadshow in Valsad district on Saturday. “PM Modi will reach Daman (Union territory) and after inaugurating a few projects, he will reach Vapi where he will do a roadshow. He will address a public meeting at 7.30 pm at Jujva village in Valsad taluka. We have made arrangements for the public meeting after getting permission from the PMO,” said Valsad district BJP president Hemant Kansara.
