Himachal: Seven tourists killed, 10 injured in road accident in Kullu

The Tempo Traveller was ferrying 17 tourists from Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and other states at the time of the accident which took place near Jalori Pass.

Seven tourists were killed and 10 others injured after the bus they were travelling in fell into a valley in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu late Sunday, the police said.

The bodies of five people had been retrieved Monday morning and two others died during treatment. Some of the injured were sent to the Banjar Hospital and others were admitted to the zonal hospital in Kullu.

The deceased have been identified as Saurabh, Priyanka Gupta, Kiran, Rishab Raj, Anshika Jain, Aditya and Ananmaya.

The tempo traveller was ferrying 17 tourists from Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and other states at the time of the accident, which took place near Jalori Pass. Officials suspect the vehicle lost balance and skidded off the road into a 400-metre gorge.

Three of the injured are students of IIT-BHU.

Banjar BJP MLA Surender Shourie streamed an online video post midnight, informing people about the accident.

In the last week, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed incessant rain leading to several weather-related incidents such as landslides and flash floods, leading to accidents.

“The incident of a tourist vehicle falling into a ditch in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, is very sad. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. Along with this, all possible help is being provided to the injured. Wish them a speedy recovery,” said PM Narendra Modi.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also expressed grief, stating that the local administration immediately rushed to the accident site to undertake rescue operations.

He also announced Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and that immediate relief of Rs 50,000 had been given to the injured.
