A man was booked for allegedly assaulting his wife and subjecting her to verbal abuse and threatening her in the Bhuj town of Kutch district late on Sunday evening.

According to an FIR registered at ‘A’ Division police station, the accused, identified as Amarsinh Mod, started beating his wife Krishnaba Mod (47) while she was cooking their evening meal after the couple returned home in Nagar Chakla after watching a movie. “After watching the movie, we returned home from the theatre around 9:30 pm and I started cooking our evening meal.

Meanwhile, my husband walked up to me and told me that he didn’t like the movie and accused me of wasting his money on it. He started arguing with me and abusing me. When I objected to abuses, he started kicking and punching, threatening me that he would not leave me alive today,” the FIR quotes Krishnaba as having stated in her police complaint.

Eventually, she was saved by her mother-in-law who lives a floor below their apartment in the same building, the woman, who had married Amarsinh five years ago, said. Later on, the victim contacted one of her relatives who rushed her to a hospital in Bhuj. After treatment, she went to her relative’s place in Mankuva village near Bhuj.

The wife also claimed that it was her husband who had, in the first place, suggested going for the movie.

Based on her complaint, the police have booked Amarsinh under IPC Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294B (uttering obscene words), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation). ‘A’ Division police inspector incharge Jayesh Dhola said no one has been detained or arrested until Monday evening.
