Axis Bank employees ‘siphon 2-kg gold of customers’, booked

The matter came to light during a surprise check conducted by the regional gold loan operations manager of the bank on September 29.

A sales manager and two other employees of an Axis Bank branch in Veraval town of Gir Somnath were booked after the branch manager filed a police complaint alleging they siphoned more than 2 kg of gold – worth over Rs 2 crore – deposited by customers as collateral for availing loans.

Based on the complaint of Sarman Solanki, the Veraval town police booked Mansinh Gadhiya, Vipul Rathod and Pinki Khemchandani under various charges including criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.

According to the FIR, Gadhiya, Rathod and Khemchandani siphoned 2.746 kg of gold deposited by customers to the bank.

The police said that Gadhiya, the sales manager of the gold loan department at Axis Bank branch, and the two employees of the same department siphoned the gold from six pouches, put some metal resembling gold and then forged details on the pouches that contained the original gold.
