In a drive launched just 24 hours ago,Haryana Police has arrested over a dozen people and impounded numerous vehicles in a bid to check and curb illegal mining. The majority of the cases were registered in Karnal district.
Karnal police arrested Salinder,a resident of Sangoi village on charges of illegal mining and theft,while his accomplices managed to escape. Salinders Tata 407 truck was also impounded by the police after a brief chase. Salinder allegedly tried to run over the police personnel when signalled to stop. In another case,Mahender,a resident of Sadar Bazar,was nabbed on the complaint of Anil Kumar (Mines and Mineral Officer,Panipat) on charges of stealing sand from the river bed.
As many as five persons were arrested on charges of illegal mining in the jurisdiction of Madhuban police station (Karnal). Those arrested include Naresh Kumar,Parmod Kumar,Rohtash,Subhash and Krishan Kumar. Their vehicles – which were used to transport sand – were also impounded.
Sanjay and Vikash were also arrested on similar charges in Kunjpura (Karnal),when they were caught stealing sand from Yamuna river bed. Their tractor trolleys were also impounded.
Haryana police also arrested Naeem Aahm and Babli,residents of Sayied Chapda village in Karnal. According to the police,the duo tried to escape when they were signalled to stop. Their vehicles – loaded with illegal sand – were also impounded.
In all the cases,the persons arrested are not the sole culprits. We have also booked the people on whose bidding they were stealing the sand. Charges of criminal conspiracy have been levied against the arrested, a senior Haryana police officer told The Indian Express.
